This presentation focuses on a benchmarking evaluation of a production Tesla Model S with emphasis on dual electric motor management and other treatments for range extension. The presentation elaborates on the test techniques and the measurement results from instrumentation, including LINK’s Model 4000 in-vehicle data acquisition. Also discussed are laboratory evaluations of In-Wheel Motor (IWM) testing of steady-state & sweep duty cycles for motor characterization for performance, noise, and hill-descent. The characteristics and performance of the motor rely upon the integration of the motor/power analyzer with the suite of Engineering tools in the ProLINK operating system for test control and customized reporting features. The work presents the use of a motor NVH testing system that enables the engineer to optimize the Regenerative and conventional hydraulic braking systems (mixed mode) using the Model 6642 Motor NVH tester. The examples for optimization apply to both conventional brake components, IWM, and other EV motor designs.
